Waltherplatz: Bolzano’s living room, seen from Aida

Aida's terrace on Waltherplatz overlooking the cathedral and mountains

In short

Waltherplatz is Bolzano’s main square – with the cathedral, the monument to Walther von der Vogelweide and, in Advent, the Christmas market. Aida is right in the middle of it.

TL;DR

  • Named after the medieval poet Walther von der Vogelweide
  • Right beside it, the cathedral with its colourful patterned tile roof
  • December to January: our stand in front of the restaurant

In the heart of the city

Waltherplatz is Bolzano’s main square. Locals and visitors meet here, guided tours start here, and the arcades and the fruit market are only a few steps away.

Cathedral and monument

In the middle stands the monument to Walther von der Vogelweide, the medieval poet the square is named after. Right beside it rises the cathedral with its colourful patterned tile roof – a sight in almost every photo of Bolzano.

All year round

In summer the square belongs to the parasols, in Advent to the Bolzano Christmas Market. From December to January we are there too, with our stand in front of the restaurant – with biscuits, Zelten and marzipan pigs.
